Past experiences which have not been amusing never leave the mind and continually haunt the person as his/her life progresses. Winston’s past includes a lot of misery and disappointment as everyone close to him was gone, as Winston blamed himself for the problem.
Winston often dreams of his childhood which includes his mother and sister. Winston recalls the stealing of his sisters chocolate rations and beings in feel remorse about his actions. Reading this section in the novel it was a reminder that an individual will do anything which will ensure their survival. As a child Winston commits many small thefts to have a better life event hough his mother worked hard for him and his sister. Winston believes that he is a murder seeing as he blames the death of his family on himself.
The horrors experienced as a child usually stay with the person until they die. Winston can not help but think about his family which is longer present as he often blames himself for their disappearance.
